Our Strategic Objectives for 2024-2027

In an increasingly competitive and fast-moving world, we understand the need to keep our services relevant and to utilise all forms of communication to reach those who can support our work and who may benefit from our services. Our plans for the next three years have been shaped with a number of factors to animal welfare, charity retail, financial resilience, community development, and equity, diversity and inclusion in mind.

Animal Welfare:

• • We will lead the way for domestic animal welfare standards and facilities in the Scottish Borders region by 2027.
  • We want to be the go-to animal welfare organisation across the Scottish Borders.
  • We want to develop our Rehoming Centre providing community support, access to information and education, increased access to support services through our Vet Assist programme and the introduction of pet food banks.
  • By enhancing our professional expertise, and having high standard facilities, we can help more animals in need.

Investment in People:

• • We will expand investment in our team of staff and volunteers, ensuring the health and well-being of all our people and providing a high-quality customer focused service.

Financial Sustainability:

• • We want to guarantee our financial sustainability.
  • We will develop a cost effective culture and review and adapt finance policies and procedures where necessary.
  • We will continually explore ways of reducing the running costs of our Rehoming Centre, ensuring value for money at all times.
  • We will also develop new income streams to strengthen our funding channels to allow our charitable activity to be less reliant on shop income.
  • Building cyber resilience to ensure that our organisation can keep operating when things go wrong.

A Successful Retail Offering:

• • We will evolve and grow our charity retail offering, utilising relevant platforms including online, where feasible.
  • We will further research geographical locations across the Borders region to grow the number of shops we operate and ensure all shops remain profitable and increase margins by 20% (against a 2023/24 baseline).

Effective Marketing & Communication:

• • We will develop our brand and community awareness of Borders Pet Rescue.
  • To be the go-to animal welfare organisation in the Scottish Borders, we need to have brand identity and continuity throughout our messaging and locations.
  • Through this development we will be able to attract more support and increase donations which will allow us to deliver on our mission to support animals in need.

Education, Outreach & Community Partnerships:

• • We will create stronger connections for people seeking help and broadening community efforts throughout the region.
  • We will develop animal welfare courses and support responsible pet ownership, through education, outreach support and widening our volunteer roles.
